What is Upgraded Coal?
Production of a low moisture, higher energy value fuel from low rank coals has been accelerated since the 1980's when low rank coals became the fuel of choice for power stations to comply with more stringent air emissions standards. Past attempts to upgrade coal have resulted in a higher value product but have had issues with self heating and dust.
